The EMPI 38DGAS Synchronous 2 Barrel Carburetor offers great performance and economy for your VW. The carburetor features dual 38mm barrels that open at the same time to offer more performance than the more common 32/36 progressive carburetor. The progressive carburetor is jetted for Type 1 1300-1600 based engines. We recommend the carburetors for displacements up to 2000cc. This is an EMPI carburetor only without the air cleaner, carb linkage or intake manifold.

The Progressive Carburetor choke and adjustment screws will sit against the fan shroud making adjustment difficult!

This is the way the carburetor was adapted to fit as it was never intended for use on a VW engine. The choke element has an electric power supply, make sure that the wire is insulated from the fan shroud and make sure that the wire is fused! Again, keep in mind that all of the idle adjustments are against the fan shroud and can be difficult to access with the carburetor installed. If you want an economical carb with the performance of the progressive carburetor barrels, this is the only choice.

If you want a bit more performance and easy access to the adjustments, consider the EMPI 38 EGAS Carburetor which has 2 barrels that open synchronously.
