German vs. Brazil Master Cylinders
What are German and Brazilian Master Cylinders.
A frequent question we get when it comes to repairing your VW Brakes is "What is the difference between German and Brazilian Master Cylinders?" Customers ask if German Master Cylinders are made for German made cars and Brazilian Master Cylinders are made for Brazilian cars. We hope to clear up some of this confusion. Both master cylinders were made for German made cars destined for the US market. The difference is country where manufactured and quality.
German Made Master Cylinders.
VW German Master Cylinders are made to last! We recommend German Master Cylinders for show-quality restorations, or if you intend to keep a car in the family for future generations.
German master cylinders are produced the cleanest and are better than any other master cylinder. Also, some of the German master cylinders come with plastic plugs for the open holes (shown in the top picture). This ensures that the thread is protected and the product is kept safe for packaging and shipping. If you want the best, go with German.
Brazilian Made Master Cylinders.
VW Brazilian Master Cylinders could be considered "Economy Master Cylinders". They work just like German master cylinders, but are considered to be lesser quality. It's easy to compare the difference between German and Brazilian master cylinders. Brazilian master cylinders are durable and built similar to the German master cylinders, but are slightly below the superior quality.
Why Offer Both Master Cylinders?
At this point customers point out "why do you carry Brazilian master cylinders if they are not OE quality?" . The difference is quality & price. Brazilian master cylinders are cost effective. Many restorations are pulled on a tight budget. Not every restoration is a ground-up show quality job. Make no mistakes, Brazilian master cylinders work, they just are not top-quality. We recommend Brazilian Master Cylinders for Daily Drivers and Budget Restorations.
The biggest difference is the quality of the master cylinder. German master cylinders are built to be more durable and meant to last. Brazilian master cylinders are not as durable, but are inexpensive.
