1973 Type 3 Fastback

Brian Ploe

Our '73 Type 3 Fastback has been in my wife’s family since the early 90’s when her uncle purchased it from the original owner. It has been past thru a number of family members prior to us. We were given it shortly after completing the construction of a new 4-car garage. Her brother couldn’t keep up with it and didn’t have dry storage for it so we ended up with it.

Upon receival we were told that it needed a battery, may have a slight fuel leak, and may need some clutch work. After 3-years of a lot of learning and work with the help from our dear friends at JBugs as well as some others its finally on the road and running like new.

Every step of the way we tried to keep things as stock original as possible but those parts were very hard to find. To get here we needed fuel lines, fuel pump fuel filter, Air filter, sanding and recoating the entire under carriage, new brake lines, new brake calipers, pads, drums, shoes, hardware, tail pipe, muffler, heat exchangers, fresh air hoses, clutch plate, pressure plate, fly wheel, throw out bearing, gland nut, tires, generator, distributor, battery, battery terminals, gas sender, paint, and carpet.

Looking forward to going after the interior this fall.
