Brosol VW Fuel Pump for Beetle, Karmann Ghia, and VW Bus

- Lower, more consistent, and "better" fuel pressure vs other lower-cost models
- Fits all Beetle, Karmann Ghia, and Type 3 Models
- Also fits Bus through 1973
This Brosol VW fuel pump uses the generator style fuel pump rod and will fit all 1200cc (40 horse) through 1600cc Type 1, 2 & 3 engines when used with the 107mm long drive rod. VW originally used this style pump on 1967 through 1973 Beetles, 1971 through 1973 Super Beetles, 1967 through 1973 Karmann Ghias, 1967 through 1971 Type 2 Bus models and 1973 through 1974 Things. The fuel pump includes new upper and lower gaskets.
This Fuel Pump has a recessed flange located inside the mount. You must use 107mm long fuel pump drive rod for the rod to contact the internal flange.
Am I ordering the correct Fuel Pump for my car?
Alternator and Generator Fuel Pumps look identical on the outside, but they mount differently under the base. Pay attention to where the metal operating lever is located underside.
- Does it stick out past the base?
- Or does it sit recessed inside the base?
It is essential to identify what style pump you have as the drive rod will either be too short (no contact with operating lever) or too long (break the operating lever on impact) if you order the incorrect unit. If you are unsure what style pump you have upon inspection of the operating lever, you can measure the overall length of your drive rod to help make a determination. Please double check with the image to ensure you are ordering the correct type of fuel pump.
Additional Notes:
Replacement mechanical pumps can put out 6 psi of fuel pressure or more out of the package. Stacking gaskets, or grinding or filing down the flat side of the fuel pump drive rod are the standard methods for lowering the fuel pressure. We recommend 3 psi or lower for most carburetor set ups and some carburetors will work best with 1.5 psi.Fuel Pumps come packed in a light oil that is used for testing and to keep the diaphragm from drying out. This is not at all out of the norm. As you should do before connecting any fuel pump to your carburetor, hook up the fuel lines to the pump. Run the line that goes to the carburetor into a small fuel safe container and crank the engine over until you get a clean, steady supply of fuel. Then connect the hose to the carburetor and continue on with the installation.
