Black Alternator Conversion Kit for Your Classic VW

Upgrade the charging system in your classic VW while also improving the look with the EMPI black alternator conversion kit. You can choose between three different alternators depending on how much output you need, 55 amps, 75 amps, or 90 amps. Most vehicles are fine with a 55 amp alternator, but if you have a high output, electronic ignition system, a big stereo system, or additional electrical accessories, you may want to opt for the 75 or 90 amp options.

Fits 40HP to 1600cc Based Type 1 Engines

The black alternator conversion kit is designed to fit 40 Horse to 1600cc-based Type 1 VW engines. This alternator can be used on 1961 through 1977 Standard Beetles, 1971 through 1979 Super Beetles, 1960 through 1971 Type 2 Bus models and 1973 through 1974 Things.

Perfect for Upgrading from a Generator to an Alternator

• This kit is ideal if you have a 12V vehicle that currently has a generator or if you are trying to "Black Out" your engine and you already have an alternator.
• If you have an original 1966 and earlier car that is still 6 volt car and using a generator this kit will work for the power source, but you will still need to switch out several other components including all light bulbs including the headlights, turn signal relay, coil, horn, and more. Optional Pulley Kit Includes Belt, Pulley Nut & Spacer, and Keyway

If you add the EMPI black pulley kit, it includes matching aluminum pulleys with timing marks, a new belt, the pulley nut and spacer, and the keyway. We also recommend adding pulley shims if you need extras and a fan hub kit if you need it.

Internally Regulated Alternator May Require Simple, Straightforward Wiring Modification

The alternator in this kit is internally regulated. This kit may require you to slightly modify your wiring if you are using a generator or alternator with an external voltage regulator. The wiring modification is straightforward and simple.
