Lifters are one of the parts in an engine that are under the most stress. They rub directly against the lobes of the camshaft. There is no bearing between the two surfaces, and the entire valve train is controlled by them, and the cam. The lifters are the link between the cam and the valves so on one side they ride against the face of the cam. On the other side they are pushed, by the valve spring into the face of the cam. As the cam spins, the lobes press into the lifter which pushes the pushrod into the rocker on the rocker assembly. The rocker transfers the movement into the intake or exhaust valve which is held against the combustion chamber in the cylinder head by the valve spring. So the lifter has to take the spring pressure from the vavles on one side and the cam on the other, without a bearing. That is why matching the lifters to your camshaft is so important.
Regardless of what cam and lifter you use, make sure to use an oil with high zinc content. Look for "classic car" or "racing oil" on the label of your oil. These oils are typically formulated with additives that are designed for engines with flat tappet lifters. If you can't find a suitable oil, look for a zinc additive to add to your engine along with your conventional motor oil.
