Not all Jopex/Dansk Heater Boxes Are the Same
We only offer the premium Jopex heater boxes. Jopex also offers a lightweight version, but as you can see in the image below that there is not much material inside the heater box. Regarding the economy, lightweight heater box, the president of JP Group said, "You might as well not have heater boxes and just use J-tubes." If you want to have heat, you must use the premium heater boxes.
This heater box is the top one in the image below and you can see the difference in the amount of material used to properly generate warm air.
How does the Heater Box Work?
The heater box is essentially a J-tube, inside a metal housing, with a ceramic core to heat the air. As the exhaust gasses leave the engine through "J-tube" portion of the heater box and out through the muffler, they heat up the ceramic core that is located inside the heater box. Then, fresh air from the fan shroud blows through the heater ducts in the fan shroud into the heater boxes as the air flows from the engine into the vehicle. As the air from the fan shroud is blown through the heater box it warms up, and blows that warm air into the vehicle.
Beginner Notes:
The VW Heater Box is an integral part of your VW exhaust. It is also the source of your VW's heat! The heater box bolts directly to the engine head and connects to the other intermediate exhaust pipes that complete the exhaust system.
