- Front & Rear Set of 12 Inch Insert Seat Upholstery
- Front & Rear Set of Door Panels
- Front & Rear Carpet Kit
- Headliner
- Hogring Kit
- Installation DVD
Our Interior Kits include components for the stock US import model year listed. If your car has different year seats than what is shown, please give us a call so we can determine which seats, or other parts may have been changed. If you want a color or material other than what is available above (but is listed in our color samples), please give us a call!
Seat Upholstery
The kit includes the seat upholstery to re-upholster and recover both the front bucket seats and the rear seat.
- Smooth vinyl on the sides, piping, and back of seats
- 12 inch insert color runs down the center of the seat and backrest of the seats
- Your choice of two-tone colors
- Heat seamed pleats
- Installs using hogrings, just like the originals
- Limited lifetime warranty on seams and construction
- This is the good stuff with the high quality backing
Door Panels
- Kit includes front and rear door panels on both the driver and passenger sides
- Two-tone door panel colors
- Available with our without pockets
- Masonite backing for superior durability
- High quality vinyl, not the vinyl-film stuff used in "economy" door panels
- The clips and seals required to install the door panels are sold separately. We recommend replacing them if you haven't replaced them recently
Pockets vs. No Pockets
- The cars originally came with a pocket in the door panel on the front, driver's side panel
- The pocket it essentially an elastic pouch
- If you actually store stuff in the pocket, the elastic will wear out, stretch, and be droopy in a couple of years
- If you like the look of the pocket, order them with the pocket
- If you don't like the look of the pocket, don't get the pocket
- Just know, if you get the pockets and you use the pocket, it will wear out and look sloppy in a couple of years
Carpet
- This kit includes both the the front carpet kit and the rear carpet kit, including the carpet on the back of the rear seat.
- We recommend black, charcoal, or oatmeal loop carpet
- The loop carpet in the colors above is better than the "standard" 80/20 nylon loop, automotive carpet
- The three colors above have a tighter loop, "smile" less when going over the center hump, and are more durable than the other colors
- We HIGHLY recommend loop carpet, that is what we put in all of our own vehicle. If you are adamant about getting cutpile, please call us for a custom order
- Premium carpet is available as an upgrade (See below)
- You will need to purchase carpet adhesive locally to glue the carpet down.
What is Premium Carpet?
The premium carpet upgrade comes with pre-cut grommets for the shifter, e-brake boot, and a pad on the tunnel, right next to the accelerator pedal.
- The carpet installs with no cutting required
- The pad next to the accelerator pedal limits wear on one of the heaviest wearing spots on the carpet
- Faster and easier installation
Footrest or No Footrest
VW Beetle's came with an optional, sloped footrest on the passenger side.
- If you have a footrest and you want to keep the footrest, order the carpet with the footrest.
- If you don't have a footrest and you want a footrest, you will need to source one from a junkyard as they are not produced
- If you don't have the vehicle close and you are unsure whether or not you have a footrest, order the carpet without the footrest. If you have one, you can always remove it and sell it to someone who wants one and doesn't have one
Headliner
- We HIGHLY recommend the Conversion Style or Easy Install headliners
- Conversion Style or Easy Install doesn't mean it just snaps right in. But, it's easier and simpler than the original style
- The DVD we include will show you how to install it.
- Watch the entire installation process before attempting to install
- You will need to purchase glue separately and we recommend Weldwood® Landau Top & Trim Contact Cement from DAP®
- Installing the headliner will require you to remove all of the windows
- This may be a good time to purchase new window seals
- The headliner is the hardest part of the interior installation
Interior Restoration Video
We include an interior restoration video with the interior kit
- Yes, the video is old
- But, so is your car
- Neither the cars nor the headliners have changed so the installation principles are still correct
Hogring Kit
We include a hogring kit and pliers with the video. The hogrings are used to attach the seat upholstery to the seat frames. We also use it to attach burlap to the seat frames.
Other Things We Recommend
For Installing This Kit (In the Additional Options Section Above)
- Seat Pad Kit - If you are replacing your seat upholstery, replace the seat pads at the same time. The seat pads are made from injection molded foam, are designed to fit the seat upholstery, and an improvement over the original horsehair padding.
- 6 Yards of Burlap - When installing the seat upholstery, we like to cover the springs with a layer of burlap, to help prevent a broken spring from going through the foam and ripping your upholstery. It's kind of like an cheap insurance plan for your new seat upholstery
- Glue (We Don't Offer) - For headliner and carpet installation. We recommend Weldwood® Landau Top & Trim Contact Cement from DAP®, but we do not sell it due to shipping carrier restrictions.
- Carpet Padding and/or Sound Deadening - Since the carpet will be replaced, now is the time to add any carpet padding or sound deadening to the floors.
- Door Panel Clips & Seals - When installing the new door panels, replace the clips and seals if you haven't done it recently. It just makes life easier
Other Things You Should Think About
- Sunvisors - Since you are replacing your old, worn out headliner, add a pair of sunvisors in the matching color.
- Sunvisor Clips - If you are replacing the sunvisors, replace the clips too
- New Window Rubber - If you haven't recently replaced your window seals, you will need to remove the windows for the headliner installation. If you haven't recently replaced your window seals, this is a great time to do it
- E-Brake Boot - It needs to come out when installing the carpet
- Seat Belts - Safety first and if you are re-doing your interior, you don't want old, faded, dirty seat belts.
- Speaker Kick Panels - If you plan on installing a stereo, we recommend adding kick panel speakers and you will want to install them before installing the front carpet
- Speaker Wire - If you are running speaker wire or amplifier wiring, run your wires before you install your carpet
