VW Dog House Oil Cooler Adapter - 1971-79 Beetle - Super Beetle - Ghia - Thing - 1971 Bus

The "doghouse" style oil cooler (and adapter) was only offered standard in late model Type 1s. It was originally used in 1971 to 1977 Standard Beetle, 1971 to 1979 Super Beetle, 1971 to 1974 Karmann Ghia, 1971 Type 2 Bus and 1973 to 1974 Thing models. For 1971 and later engines, four late model oil cooler seals (#021117151A) are required for installation.

The doghouse adapter allows you to install the improved design "doghouse" style oil cooler (#113117021) on any 40HP/1200cc to 1600cc-based Type 1 VW engine. Customers who want to install a "doghouse" oil cooler on their 40HP/1200cc and up engine can use this adapter along with the doghouse oil cooler, a doghouse fan shroud, doghouse fan shroud ducting tin and the doghouse front engine tin. Two stepped oil cooler seals (#111117151B) go between the oil cooler adapter and the case and two late model seals go between the adapter and the cooler itself. Bolting the adapter to the early case requires a stepped 6 to 8mm stud to replace the original mounting stud and the two ears on the case must be drilled out to accept the 8mm studs on the adapter.
