High Capacity VW Fuel Tank for 1961-1967 Beetle and Karmann Ghia

  • Taller design affects fuel gauge reading; requires adjustment to the sending unit

The raised top design of the High Capacity VW Fuel Tank adds approximately 2.5 gallons of fuel capacity compared to the stock gas tank. This tank is a direct replacement for 1961 through 1967 Beetles and Karmann Ghias, featuring a 60mm diameter fuel filler neck.

We recommend the following parts when installing a new fuel tank:

Installation Note:

  • Past body damage can make fitment tight from side to side for the fuel tank. Trimming the edges of the fuel tank will allow for more clearance at the inner fender wells.
  • Note that due to the taller design the stock sending unit will not read correctly at empty. The sending unit arm can be bent to read a lower empty position but will read full for a longed period of time.
  • Fuel Tanks should be thoroughly cleaned before installation.Some tanks are lined with cosmoline, which can be cleaned out with MEK (Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone), Acetone, or a similar solvent. Even if the tank is not lined, it is essential to clean it out before installation as manufacturing debris can clog your fuel lines, carburetor, or fuel system!
