The Aftermarket made VW Turn Signal Switch fits 1962-1965 Beetles and 1961-1965 Karmann Ghias. The turn signal switch is
a replacement for the original three wire unit (power in from relay, power out to left, power out to right) but does have
3 more wires in the loom that are not typically used. This aftermarket Turn Signal Switch is a less expensive alternative
to the original switches which have been discontinued.
DO NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE BOX!
Yellow wire - 49a or "L" Terminal on Flasher Relay
Black wire - Power to left turn signals
White wire with Green stripe: Power to right turn signals
The remaining Red-Black, Yellow-Red and White-Brown wires can be cut off or they must be taped off, individually.
NOTE:
The additional wires on the switch can be used to operate 1961 and earlier style (single tail light bulb) tail lights.
They operate the brake lights as a tail light and a turn signal, operating as brake lights when the turn signal switch is
not at the left or right position, then passing through the turn signal selected to the Yellow-Red or the White-Brown
wires. If you won't be using the wires, they be cut off or taped off so they do not short out. If you will be using the
switch to control a brake and turn signal at one bulb, the wiring is noted below:
Red wire with Black stripe: Power in from brake light switch
White wire with Brown stripe: Power to left rear tail light (operates as a brake light unless the left turn signal is selected)
Yellow wire with Red stripe: Power to right rear tail light (operates as a brake light unless the right turn signal is selected)
With this wiring hooked up, when the turn signal switch is in the off position, if the Red-Black wire has power
(the brake pedal is pushed), both the White-Brown and the Yellow-Red wires will have power. If the turn signal switch
is turned to the left position, and the brakes are still pressed, the White-Brown wire will blink, the Yellow-Red wire
will stay on solid. If the brake pedal is released, the brake light will go out and the turn signal will still operate
until it is returned to the off position.
Please Note:The information listed below is for stock, unmodified VW's manufactured for sale in the US. VW's are commonly modified and very often parts from another year VW may have been installed on your car. California Pacific JBugs is not responsible for any errors if your car has been modified in any way.
