The VW Emergency Flasher Hazard Switch fits late model 1968 through 1973 Standard Beetles, 1971 through 1972 Super Beetles, late 1968 through
1974 Karmann Ghias, 1968 through 1973 Type 3 models and 1973 to 1974 Things. The switch can also be used in 1974 through 1977 Standard Beetles
but is not factory original to the car. See the Tech Tips tab for wiring and terminal information. This switch is not a direct replacement for
early model 1968 VWs with the 2 prong flasher switch and 9 prong flasher relay.

The VW Emergency Flasher Switch wiring is one of the more intricate on the VW with the switch connecting to multiple points on the fuse box, flasher relay and turn signal switch. Take the installation wire by wire. The designations for the wires are:
30 - Main Battery Power from the Fuse Box
15 - Ignition Power from the Fuse Box
+ or 49 - Power to the Turn Signal Relay
49a - Power from the Turn Signal Relay
L - Power to the Left Turn Signal
R - Power to the Right Turn Signal
31 - Ground
58b - not used
VW Factory Emergency Switch Color Coding:
30 - Red
15 - Black
+ or 49 - White
49a - Blue
L - Black with White Stripe
R - Black with Green Stripe
31 - Brown
