This dog house fan shround will fit 1300-2332cc, Type 1 based aircooled VW engines. It comes with a painted black finish and comes without the heater duct connections. This fan shround features 9 internal, air directional baffles to ensure proper airflow over the engine. With an air-cooled Vokswagen engine, the fan-shround is critical to prevent overheating. With a "Doghouse Style" shroud, the oil cooler sits behind the shroud and is offset from the fan in it's own compartment, the "doghouse". The fan pulls in air while the shroud creates a channeling effect to disperse it towards the oil cooler, cylinder heads, pistons & cylinders. If you are eliminating heater boxes and opting to install J-tubes, this fan shroud eliminates the air ducts for a smoother, cleaner look.
Doghouse fan shrouds use a wider, 36mm cooling fan (P/N 113119031B) to push more air through the shroud than earlier models. Make sure to use the appropriate sized fan to maximize the cooling benefits of the doghouse shroud.
If you are replacing your fan shround and do not already have the doghouse tins, you will need the two-piece doghouse engine tins. The doghouse tins attach the fan shround to direct hot air out of the fan shroud and out of the engine compartment.
If you don't already have them, make sure to pick up a set of shroud screws so that you can properly install the engine tin pieces to each other. We sell them in the following quantities
NOTE: This fan shroud is made for 1300-1600cc Type 1 based aircooled engines. This is a "36 horse power" style fan shround and it refers to the style and shape of the fan shroud. This is an aftermarket made piece it may require some massaging to fit perfectly. This is the case with all aftermarket fan shrouds, period. If you want a factory fit, you must use the original factory pieces.
When it comes to engine tin, we always prefer original VW tin to aftermarket tin. For our 1971 Super Beetle restoration, we had our pick of the warehouse for the most part, and we used all original engine tin. Sometimes getting ahold of original pieces isn't feasible so there is a place for aftermarket engine tin. Aftermarket tin does not fit as well as original tin, period. Trimming, clearancing and occasionally drilling may be required to get the engine tin components to mount to the engine and other engine tin pieces. With work, the tin can be made to fit and be effective, but do not expect an OEM fit.
