The EMPI VW Front Engine Tin fits 1971 Type 2 Bus models and 1968 through 1970 models that have a Doghouse Oil Cooler. The black front engine tin is made specifically for the Bus engine firewall and sits towards the front of the VW, behind the fan shroud. The Bus front engine tin has the rectangular cut out for the Doghouse exit tin.

Our Expert's Take:

When it comes to engine tin, we always prefer original VW tin to aftermarket tin. For our 1971 Super Beetle restoration, we had our pick of the warehouse for the most part, and we used all original engine tin. Sometimes getting ahold of original pieces isn't feasible so there is a place for aftermarket engine tin. Aftermarket tin does not fit as well as original tin, period. Trimming, clearancing and occasionally drilling may be required to get the engine tin components to mount to the engine and other engine tin pieces. With work, the tin can be made to fit and be effective, but do not expect an OEM fit.
