Chrome 75 Amp Alternator Conversion Kit for Classic VWs

This chrome alternator conversion kit by EMPI fits 40 horsepower to 1600cc-based Type 1 VW engines.

The kit comes complete with the following:

New EMPI chrome 75 Amp alternator (P/N 9453)
Chrome alternator pulley
Chrome alternator stand
Chrome mounting strap
Chrome 3-piece backing plate set.

75 Amp Alternator Advantage

The higher output, 75 Amp alternator is essential for customers who require more power to power extra accessories (such as a stereo system with an amplifier) or a high output ignition system.

Internally Regulated Alternator

This alternator is internally regulated. If your vehicle currently has a generator or an alternator with an external regulator, please see the important notes below

If your VW has an externally regulated alternator, it will not be reused and your wiring must be modified.
If your VW has a generator, the original voltage regulator for it must be removed and the wiring for it must be modified.

For an internally regulated alternator to operate, the D+ terminal must be wired to the negative side of a warning light bulb. A standard, incandecsent light bulb must be used. An LED light does not draw enough current to turn on the regulator in the alternator. The positive side of the light bulb should be powered by a key hot circuit.
