The 1974 Thing was purchased by me and my wife in 2019.

In 1972 my father opened his own repair shop specializing in VW repair. He operated the business until his retirement in 2016. As a kid I had Thing toys and when I worked at the family business in the summer, I always made sure to test drive any Thing that had been brought to us for service.

We live in a mountainous location which receives considerable snowfall. Our roads are not kind to cars in the winter and as a result, very few Things were brought to our area or survived on salty roads. Our car was purchased in Arizona. It has a few scuffs and dings but we think it adds to its character. I believe the car has its original engine but I have not confirmed this by purchasing a build sheet from Volkswagen.
