1971 VW Super Beetle

Rodger Moran

I fell in love with the VW Beetle as a kid. My dad had a 1963 Bug- a triple white rag top. I loved that car, and I will never forget Mom and Dad piling three kids in the back, and the Saint Bernard in the “boot” for family picnics. Fast forward to 2006 when I finally brought mine home, a California car that had only been in NYS two years. 27 collected boxes of parts later I started the restoration in 2018, thanks in large part to J-Bugs, my “go-to” for almost everything, from fenders to just about any nut, bolt, window crank and everything in-between.

I took the car from “Cal-Look” back to original- from 7 layers of paint to bare metal, then carefully ordered all the original chrome and parts to take the car back to authentic. It’s been a labor of love but worth it! After 4 long years out for restoration, with many bumps along the way, I finally received the car, only to lose the engine DAY 1! So imagine my surprise a full month later when my local towing company, who had delays of their own that day, arrived at 11:30 PM with my classic with newly installed engine…and the guy shows up with the “wrong” classic on his rig! Yes, it was a 1970 yellow bug with original roof-top carrier- and not my correct 1971 Colorado Red Super Beetle. He raced 60 miles back, did the swap, and at 2:30 AM I finally got my classic back…after 9 years off the road! Thanks JBugs for being a big part of the restoration!
