The Bosch 6 Volt, 1.5 Ohm VW Ignition Coil comes with a mounting bracket. The Bosch coil is epoxy-filled and will not leak if mounted sideways or upside down. We almost exclusively use Bosch ignition components in our VWs and recommend only Bosch ignition parts in your car. The coil fits 1954 through 1966 Standard Beetles, 1956 through 1966 Karmann Ghias, 1955 through 1966 Type 2 Bus models and 1962 through 1966 Type 3s. This part is also listed under P/N 9408.

Beginner Tips:

The VW coil is the round cylinder, slightly smaller than a soda can. The coil is typically mounted to the left side of the VW fan shroud. It has a large wire running from it's center post to the center post of the distributor cap. The coil is powered when you turn on your key and provides the spark that keeps your engine running.

Coil wiring is occasionally reversed, double check your connections to ensure you do not short your ignition circuit. The POSITIVE terminal is #15, the NEGATIVE terminal is #1.

If you are using standard points the original wire from the main wiring harness is BLACK, this goes to the POSITIVE terminal. The GREEN wire from the condensor goes to the NEGATIVE side of the coil.
