This is a pair of VW hubcap pullers that feature the EMPI logo. They are oval and often used for decorative purposes more so than as a tool. They are stored in the jack hole point which is why they are sometimes referred to as jack hole plugs.

The jack hole is the square tube located under the running board at the back of a Beetle. The Thing has the jack hole under the rear edge of the body. VW Buses, Double Cabs and Single cabs have 2 jack holes per side, one at the front and one at the rear under the lower rocker panel.
