Driver's Side Window Regulator for 1968-1974 Beetle & 1971-1974 Super Beetle

If your driver's side window is struggling to go up and down when you turn the window crank, replacing it with a new window regulator will get your window back to operating properly. The gears on the window regulators wear out over time, but thankfully new ones are readily available. This window regulator works just like the original and bolts directly to the door using your existing hardware.

This left (driver side) VW window regulator fits (mid)1968-1974 Beetles and 1971-1974 Super Beetles. The VW Beetle window regulator changed mid 1968. If you have a 1968 Beetle, make sure to check your Beetle's window regulator to verify that you have the correct style.

Before You Install:

Make sure your felt channels and scrapers are in good, operating condition before installing the new window regulator. If your felt channels & scrapers are worn, have crooked guides, or are damaged, the new window regulator will have to work against all those items. Take a few moments and ensure everything is working as it should so your window rolls up and down well for years to come.

Grease the gear, crank and cable mechanisms (as applicable) to prolong the life of the window regulator. White lithium grease works well.
Before securing the window to the regulator, check that the window can move freely against the inside & outside scrapers
Before securing the window to the regulator, make sure that the window moves up and down within the felt channels without excess resistance.

If there is friction lubricate the felt channels & scrapers, inspect them and replace as needed. If everything is in good shape, silicone spray can help to lube the seals. Spray them all down, generously!

Check to make sure the window regulator you are purchasing will fit your car. 1968-74 and 1975-77 window regulators can look very similar, however the mounting holes are different. The easiest way to distinguish them apart is to look at the bottom mounting bracket.
