Turn Signal Switch - 1971 Beetle - Super Beetle - Karmann Ghia - Type 3

The VW Turn Signal Switch wiring is a very simple circuit, even with the switch controlling the Headlight Relay. The designations for the wires are:

Black/White/Green Wire: 49a OR "L" Terminal on Flasher Relay
(Solid Black Wire on most aftermarket switches)
Blue Jumper Wire (on Bk/Wh/Gn wire or Black wire): K3 bulb in Speedometer (the turn signal indicator bulb)
(Not present on most aftermarket switches, use original or remake)
Black wire with White Stripe: Power to left turn signals
Black wire with Green Stripe: Power to right turn signals
(Green with Black on most aftermarket switches)
Brown wire: Ground Terminal on Speedometer Mounting Screw
Brown wire with White Stripe: "S" Terminal on Headlight Relay
Thick Brown wire: Ground to Horn Wire Harness
(Solid White Wire on some aftermarket Switches)

If you turn on the ignition and the horn turns on, the two Brown wires are REVERSED and need to be swapped around.

NOTE!
Some aftermarket switches will have non factory specific colored wires! The alternative wire colors are listed above.

Note on aftermarket switches:
Black/Red Wire is not used
Grey Wire is not used

For wires that are not used, we typically cut them off of the switch before installing the switch to the column.
