The VW Horn Contact and Turn Signal Cancelling Ring mounts to the bottom of the steering wheel and contacts the turn signal switch. The metal ring contacts the metal horn tabs on the turn signal switch which carry the ground signal from the horn button to the horn. The plastic tab on the ring interact with the turn signal cancellation mechanism to turn off the turn signal after a turn is made. The ring fits late model 1971 through 1977 Standard Beetles, late model 1971 through 1979 Super Beetles, late 1971 through 1974 Karmann Ghias, 1974 through 1979 Type 2 Bus models, late model 1971 through 1973 Type 3s and 1973 to 1974 Things.

If you aren't sure whether you have an early or late model 1971 VW, the wiper switch is the easiest way to tell. If the wiper switch is on the dash, you have an early 1971 VW. If the wiper switch is on the column, you have a late model 1971. This cancelling ring will only fit models that have a column mounted wiper switch.
