If your 1968-1979 classic VW has drum brakes and you are upgrading or re-doing the braking system, these are the rear wheel cylinders you want to use. When we restore our own cars and keep the drum brakes, we use these German rear wheel cylinders. These wheel cylinders have a 11/16" (17.6mm) bore and are held to the rear drum backing plate using an 8mm bolt. The wheel cylinder is uses the hydraulic pressure of the brake fluid to push the brake shoes against the inside of the drum to create drag and slow down the vehicle. These German rear wheel cylinders are essential safety equipment and we strongly recommend replacing them if you see notice any leaks, particularly if you have a 1966 and earlier vehicle with a single circuit brake system. This wheel cylinder comes with the bleeder pre-installed, but we always recommend using quickly bleeders because they make life much easier.
Included in Brake Rebuild Kits
These wheel cylinders are included in our brake rebuild kits if you are completely re-doing your drum brake system. The brake rebuild kits include everything you need to re-do the brakes and we offer the option to add brake drums, if you need them.

Brake components (like most things nowadays) are made around the world, by various manufacturers. A German brake component comes from a German manufacturing company that may have numerous factories around the globe. Regardless of where the part is made, if it is labeled as a German part, it comes from a German company that has manufactured that component at a facility that is owned by them, and it is made to their high standards of quality and fitment.
