In 1982, the South Florida VW Club was founded by Marshall Painter, Ron Baker, Kens Automotive and Rallye Auto Parts. Nearly 40 year later, it is the oldest Volkswagen club in South Florida and still the go-to club for all things VW. Not only does the club help members list and show their VWs but they offer knowledgeable information, encourage discussion and provide a sense of community to those involved.
The club hosts weekly and monthly cruise-ins. The weekly cruise-ins take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. They meet at local restaurants to show off their cars and munch on some grub. Some of the restaurants even offer discounts for participants with classic VWs. The monthly cruise-ins occur on the first and second Sundays and first Friday’s and Saturdays of the month. If you can’t make it to the weekly cruise-ins, you should at least show up for one of the monthly cruise-ins. There is a chance to win raffle prizes and special awards for cars with character. They even have a DJ spinning old school vinyl that’ll bring you right back to the good ol’ days.
They also put on show ‘n shines the whole family can enjoy. Every year, the club invites VW owners and enthusiasts to the Mill’s Pond Park for a day of fun in the sun with vendors and classic VWs from all over the state. Spectators will see all VW types and classes including air-cooled, water-cooled, classic and modern VWs. All proceeds from the shows are donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities which makes the shows that much more special to attend.
Join the South Florida VW Club as they present the 35th Annual Show ‘N Shine in Fort Lauderdale March 4, 2018 from 10 AM- 3 PM. If you want to participate in the show, visit the South Florida VW Club website to pre-register, you will also receive a free t-shirt for signing up early. The early bird does get the worm after all.
