EMPI GTV-86B VW Performance Camshaft - Type 1 - 1300-1600 - for 1.4 or 1.5 Rockers

This is Web Cams most popular ratio rocker cam and it has a powerband similar to the W-120 but with more top end. Since it is designed for use with ratio rockers it is smoother than the 120, but it does have a rougher than stock idle. When tuned properly with dual two barrel carburetors it can idle at 800 rpm. It likes a good bit of headwork and 40x35 or larger valves. This cam is about the limit for helical style drive gears and for performance applications straight cut gears are recommended. Whether using it with 1.4 or 1.5 ratio rockers it provides good useable power in a wide range of engines.

EMPI's GTV-86B cam pulls well from 1500 up to about 6000 RPM. Dual springs and HD rocker shafts are necessities, along with 1.4 or 1.5 ratio rockers. Dual, two barrel carburetors are ideal and will allow for an idle that is close to stock. This is a great all around cam with a very streetable powerband.

Installation Notes:

All Type 1 performance cams are 3 Bolt, "early style" or "flat cams" and fit Type 1,2 & 3, 1200cc(40hp) to 1600cc based engines. The cam requires a separately sold, bolt on cam gear and must be used with a "flat cam" style oil pump. You can add the gear with the option above, or check out the links below:

New lifters should be installed whenever a new cam is being used. Never reuse old lifters with a new cam! Here are a few of options to consider:

JBugs along with most engine builders, racers and auto enthusiasts, recommends using an engine oil with ZDDP or ZDTP or a ZDDP/ZDTP additive in your oil for all flat tappet camshaft engines!
