EMPI GTV-86C VW Performance Camshaft - Type 1 - 1300-1600 - for 1.4 or 1.5 Rockers

This is probably Web Cams most extreme "street" ratio rocker cam and it has a powerband that is sort of lazy of the bottom, but pulls to the moon! When tuned properly with dual two barrel carburetors it can have a rough idle at 800rpm or a smooth idle at 1000 rpm. This cam is pretty tough on drivetrains, so don't expect much more than 50K miles out of it and because of the strain on the valve train, straight cut gears are recommended.

EMPI's GTV-86C cam pulls from 3500 up to about 7500 RPM. Chevy springs are highly recommended, along with and HD rocker shafts are necessities, along with 1.4 or 1.5 ratio rockers. Dual, two barrel carburetors are necessities as well. This is a spicy street cam or a great cam for the track.

  • 10:1 to 10.5:1

  • 3500 to 7500

Recommended Carburetion:

  • Dual, 2 Barrels.

Installation Notes:

All Type 1 performance cams are 3 Bolt, "early style" or "flat cams" and fit Type 1,2 & 3, 1200cc(40hp) to 1600cc based engines. The cam requires a separately sold, bolt on cam gear and must be used with a "flat cam" style oil pump. You can add the gear with the option above, or check out the links below:

New lifters should be installed whenever a new cam is being used. Never reuse old lifters with a new cam! Here are a few of options to consider:

JBugs along with most engine builders, racers and auto enthusiasts, recommends using an engine oil with ZDDP or ZDTP or a ZDDP/ZDTP additive in your oil for all flat tappet camshaft engines!
