This cam is modeled after one of the most popular VW street cams ever and is a great "do it all" cam. It can be used with stock heads but performance will increase as the ports and valve sizes increase. Whether using it with stock or 1.25 ratio rockers it provides good useable power in a wide range of engines with performance similar to the Engle W-110 cam.

EMPI's GT-2 cam pulls well up to about 5800 RPM, or up to 6000 if you swap to 1.25 rockers, dual springs and HD rocker shafts. A stock carburetor is not recommended. A single 2 barrel carb, or a pair of dual, single or dual barrel carbs are recommended with the GT-2. Low end power will increase with more headwork and carburetion.

Valve Spring Recommendations:

Recommended Rocker Assemblies:

• HD Rocker Shafts & 1.1:1 or 1.25:1

Recommended Compression Ratio:

• 8.25:1 to 8.75:1

RPM Range:

• 1500 to 5800 w/1.1:1 Rockers
• 1700 to 6000 w/1.25:1 Rockers

Recommended Carburetion:

• Single or Dual, 2 Barrels as displacement increases and performance is desired.

Installation Notes:

All Type 1 performance cams are 3 Bolt, "early style", or "flat cams" and fit Type 1,2 & 3, 1200cc(40hp) to 1600cc based engines. The cam requires a bolt-on cam gear which is sold separately and it must be used with a "flat cam" style oil pump. You can add the gear with the option above, or check out the links below:

New lifters should be installed whenever a new cam is being used. Never reuse old lifters with a new cam! Here are a few of options to consider:

JBugs along with most engine builders, racers and auto enthusiasts, recommends using an engine oil with ZDDP or ZDTP or a ZDDP/ZDTP additive in your oil for all flat tappet camshaft engines!
