1954-1965 Beetle & Karmann Ghia Beam Bolt Lock Plate

  • Secures the beam bolts to the chassis

Why Lock Plates?

The VW Beam Bolt Lock Plates install in between the front beam bolts and the front beam. Once the bolts are installed and torqued down (to 36 ft/lbs) the end tabs of the plates are tapped over the heads of the bolts to prevent them from loosening. The 4 beam bolts are the only things that hold the front suspension, brakes and steering of your VW to the chassis. These 4 large bolts aren't torqued very tightly for the size as they are bolting through a piece of stamped steel. VW doesn't want the bolts tightened to or anywhere near their holding strength as they would deform the sheet metal brackets that hold the beam tubes together, so tighten them to spec, and use the lock plates to make sure the bolts don't back out.
